Introduction

Hello, my name is Sebastian but you can call me Sab. I’m from a small town called Barry’s Bay, located near Algonquin Park. It is known for its many lakes and lookout trails and is most popular in the summer months. It's the kind of town that is busy with tourists and farmers markets in the summer and fall, and turns to a ghost town in the winter.

Despite being such a small town, it amazes me how many people have been to my town; let alone know of my town. When people ask me where I'm from, I usually default to saying, 'just a small town near the park,' yet thousands of people come to visit continously every year. I think most people come to get some peace and quiet, whether it's camping in the surrounding areas or renting a cottage on the many lakes. But my town really does have a lot to offer. I have always believed in the power of social media, and feel Barry's Bay really needs more of a voice to show the world what we have to offer. Beacause of this I recently started a Instagram feature page called @MADVALLEYPHOTO where I will not be promoting my photography, but will focus on featuring photos captured by locals and tourists. My hope is to  encourage others to get outdoors, visit our area, and share it with the world using the hashtag #MadValley.

Growing up in such a beautiful location has influenced me to want to see the rest of the world and document my travels using photography. Being an adventure photographer is my goal, however I have grown to love working in the studio doing both portrait and commercial work. My plan for this summer is to continue to do action photography at the Madawaska Kanu Centrewhere I sell my photos to the paddlers who visit the resort. I also Intend to vist OWL Rafting on the beautiful Ottawa River this summer. One of my goals this summer is to purchace some lighting equipment and be the first to start offering headshots in the area.

I am currently finishing up my final year in the algonquin college photography program. It is the beginning of the end, as we are all finishing up our work before we head off to field placement. I can honestly say I have no regrets in chosing the Algonquin program. This program was tough. Like kicked my ass tough, but I really feel ready. Ready to enter into the field as not only a photographer, but as an Entrepreneur. I know I still have so much to learn. I've also heard time and time again, that you learn more in the field than you do in school, which both excites me and scares me simultainiously. But coming out of this program I am some what comforted, knowing I have the confidence now to believe in my work and the knowledge to know what I love to shoot. I've come to realize that one chapter in my life is coming to an end but another one is also about to begin...

Stay tuned!
